I haven't been in mine much, either. [Sleeping is hard with his thoughts occupied by news or at least rumors of Thedas being gone + lack of warm Anders beside him to steal blankets from.] Where do you spend most of your time, then? So I know where to find you.

[oh, flirting! Hawke likes this game. He kind of wants to ask how Anders could still be impressed with him considering he's used to Hawke's asshole doppelganger, but he also...doesn't want to talk about that douchebag. For multiple reasons.]

I've been exploring. This city is enormous. [pause.] I suppose we could explore together soon.

[Only if Hawke wants, though, but he does seem pretty determined to spend time with Anders. Still, the option to say no is quite clearly still written on his face.]

It's the combination that amazes me.

[He'll like it even more if Anders doesn't mention Nate again. Not that he has anything against Nate. But. You know, he wants some alone-time with the man.]

Oh? Overwhelming, is it?

[nope, not mentioning anyone else this time. Actually, Anders is expecting Hawke to be the one to bring others along. Despite the flirting. Speaking of which--]

[he looks away instead. He really should know, by now, but it's so easy t forget in the moment.]

[Oooh, nice. Maybe Hawke will want to bring more people along on future outings, but not this one. Or probably the next one, or the next one, either.]

[...And then Anders' apology confuses the hell out of him. It's very apparent to see on his face, or it would be if Anders were looking at him.]

We might have to find breakfast first. I don't know how to cook here.

[There's no proper fireplace, how do you cook without a fireplace. There are just all these mysterious contraptions that make no sense!!

The fact that Hawke questions his decision is actually more surprising to him. He looks up at him again, frowning just slightly.]

It isn't fair to either of us. I am not just here to feed your ego.

That's fine. I don't either.

[Hawke's frowning too, his expression puzzled. He'd thought that they were just flirting, bullshitting like always. Apparently he'd been wrong.]

I never for a second meant to imply that you were. I'm sorry, for assuming...it's just how I'm used to talking with you.

[He'd forgotten, for a moment, that what the pair of them are used to is quite different.]

We talk like that?

[Anders considers Hawke for a moment - something he seems to be doing a lot. There are apparently more things to get used to than he'd thought; the extent of their friendship, for instance.]

It's not difficult to imagine. It's easy to forget around you.

[Forget the promises he made with Justice, and the consequences of letting anyone get too close. He always seems to flirt with Hawke, and it's never a good idea.]

[That's where you're wrong, Anders - it's always a good idea to flirt with Hawke! Especially this one!]

I don't mind.

[pause]

But if it makes you uncomfortable, tell me, and I'll stop.

[Or he'll try anyway.]

That's not it either.

[he's not uncomfortable, he wants it, and he doesn't think he should. He also assumes Hawke is just joking around - just like Fawke did, despite obviously being serious about Fenris (she's clearly got bad taste).]

There are--

[His head snaps up at a sudden screeching sound, unfamiliar with the alarm system on the Thor. He hadn't even reacted to the faint scent of smoke, so used to fires, but now there's suddenly a cloud of it coming from the kitchen.]

Is that a fire?

[Hawke starts up too, all but leaping to his feet at the awful noise, cursing the timing. There is indeed a cloud of smoke coming from the kitchen, along with the distinct smell of a fire.]

What could even be burning in there?

[If the kitchen here is anything like the one in Hawke's run-down little apartment (and considering the identical layout of the two structures, he's willing to bet that it is), then it's made up entirely of metal and that strange plastic material. Nothing flammable. Even so, something is obviously burning in Anders' kitchen, and Hawke's right hand begins to glow with the start of an ice spell as he approaches the source of the smoke.]

[as always, Hawke is the first on his feet when something happens; but Anders is right behind, preparing a spell of his own.]

I'm not sure. How can a fire even get started in there?

[The kitchen is already filled with smoke, making it impossible to tell just yet. But the source of the fire is easy to spot, and Anders lets go of the spell, freezing one side of the room.]

[Hawke lets go of his own half-formed spell and approaches the source of the fire to examine it. Beneath the sheet of ice are the charred remains of what might, at one time, have been food, and beneath that, already melting the ice that has formed over it, is a glowing red circle which is evidently giving off an intense amount of heat.]

This must be what started it. But where is the heat coming from?

I was going to put that in the box-- the fridge? -- when you knocked.

[he opens up a drawer to find a pair of forks, using them to lift the food into the sink instead. Just to be on the safe side, he turns on the water for a moment.]

...I'm really not sure. And how do we make it stop?

[Hawke melts a bit more of the ice with a small, controlled fire spell, revealing the rest of the stovetop, and studies the surface intently. There are four circles on the smooth black top - one of which is still glowing and giving off a surprising amount of heat. There are four circular knobs on the back of the contraption, each with numbers marked around the perimeter. Three of the knobs are set identically; the fourth is set to "Hi". Hawke reaches out and twists it so that it's set like the others. The glowing circle dims slightly, but nothing else seems to happen immediately.]

Perhaps that will help.

It's strange seeing you use magic.

[He has to comment on it, because that's another thing he's not quite used to yet. Although it's a nice reminder that things are different now.

He walks back over from the sink, holding a hand over the glowing red circle. It's still hot, and he can't really tell if it's cooled at all. Hopefully whatever Hawke did has helped.]

We should probably keep an eye on it.

Is it? [He gives Anders a rueful sort of smile.] Well, I suppose you'll get used to it.

[He watches Anders inspect the heated area and nods in agreement with his assessment, leaning against a counter.]

That definitely sounds like a good idea.

Can you do healing magic, too?

[he'll lean against a counter opposite, then, one eye on the stove, one eye on Hawke.]

Hopefully it won't start burning while I sleep.

Very basic healing, yes. But you're much better at it than I am.

[He'll glance over to the stove again now with a small frown.]

Have you encountered the people you share this space with, yet? Perhaps one of them knows how to use it.

So you're not stealing my job, then?

[Because teasing helps, when they've been reduced to watching flat surfaces for fear of fire.]

I'll have to ask. I think I'd prefer an actual fire to cook over.

Not at all. I'll always be better at fireballs than healing spells. You've complained about them a time or two, actually.

[Teasing is fine too; they're probably not going to get that interrupted moment back...at least on this visit.]

[Hawke nods in agreement]

You always know where you're at, with fire.

It's true, I admit it. My healing spells are crap. I hope I haven't disillusioned you too badly.
